Thousand Island Earrings
18ct yellow gold, brass, shell, smoky quartz and resin drop earrings
The Ten Thousand Islands are a chain of islands and mangrove islets off the coast of southwest Florida. These striking one-of-a-kind earrings are inspired by this archipelago of Florida coastline and the found objects that decorate its beaches.
Handcrafted in 18ct yellow gold and brass, the Thousand Island Earrings feature an assortment of pyramidal shaped brown and white shells, each one set into canary yellow resin. Around the edges of the brass cage are set smoky quartz bullets, mirroring the colour of the encased shells within. A pair of square-cut smoky quartz gemstones complete the design, bringing a touch of brilliance and warmth to this unique piece.

Using liquid resin to ‘set’ objects is both innovative and exciting for us. The bezels and mounts that would normally be needed to house gemstones or shells in jewellery are no longer required, giving rise to new design possibilities and techniques. Many of our pieces in our Plastic Fantastic collection make use of this new setting method, such as the American Sweetheart Earrings and Palm Beach Earrings. In both these examples resin is poured over gemstones that have been placed in a round mould, covered in this liquid material and left to harden over several days. The result is cast roundels of resin that work perfectly as decorative drops for our statement earrings.
The Thousand Island Earrings have been showcased online by such editors as @melaniegrant of The Economist 1843, and featured in such publications as Wallpaper Magazine.
