American Sweetheart Earrings
18ct yellow gold, brass, resin, pink tourmaline, garnet and amethyst drop earrings
These gorgeous, one-of-a-kind gemstone earrings perfectly capture the spirit of the American sweetheart, a term first adopted in the early 1900s to describe young, darling and eligible women who were part girl-next-door and part Hollywood starlet. The decade of the 1950s belonged to Debbie Reynolds, the star of ‘Singing in the Rain’ and our American Sweetheart Earrings imagine what she might have worn poolside, whilst sipping on an ice-cold Margarita, surrounded by the good and the great of Floridian high society.
Featuring a combination of pink sapphires, garnets, amethysts and pink tourmalines, these statement earrings adopt a new and innovative method of gemstone setting to create the drops. Using resin, the gemstones are placed in a round mould, covered in this liquid material and left to harden over several days. The result is a mesmerising symphony of layered gemstones, each one suspended in a transparent cage, allowing the wearer to appreciate the full 360 degree form of the gemstones without any visual obstruction from the normal metal casing. Setting the gemstones in resin also allows them to be layered, creating new shades of pink and purple as they overlap one another. When the light passes through these earrings the overall effect is like stained glass – the pink and purple gemstones come to life like magical pops of colour.
